European Court announced its decision in the dispute between Booking.com and hoteliers in Germany
A few days ago, the European Court announced its decision in the dispute between Booking.com and hoteliers in Germany. The court ruled that Booking.com cannot require hotels to maintain the same or higher prices on their own websites compared to its platform. This opens the door for businesses to offer more competitive prices directly to their customers.
Commenting on the decision, POWERSOFT’s CEO, George Malekkos, stated that similar developments could affect other Cypriot platforms, including Foody and Wolt. If these businesses gain similar rights, they could reduce their reliance on ordering platforms by offering lower prices directly to consumers. This could significantly disrupt the local market, creating new challenges for online delivery services in Cyprus, as businesses gain greater control over pricing and customer relations.
