Sam Altman points out that artificial intelligence can create new fields and professional roles

Workers in the U.S., particularly those seeking their first jobs, are expressing growing concern about the potential reduction of available positions, as employers increasingly turn to artificial intelligence. Despite these concerns, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman argues that the opportunities offered by AI make today “the most interesting time to start a career.”

Altman points out that artificial intelligence can create new fields and professional roles, giving young people the ability to achieve goals that once required “decades of experience or large teams,” according to CNBC.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report for 2025, technology is expected to “democratize access to jobs,” providing young people with skills that previously required years of training. At the same time, Bill Gates notes that artificial intelligence will boost productivity, “improving work on the tasks you want to do and freeing you from those you don’t.”

Job losses
Despite the optimism, the adoption of AI has led to the elimination of more than 10,000 jobs in the U.S. during the first seven months of 2025, according to data from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Young people aged 22 to 27 are already facing higher unemployment rates compared to the general population, while hiring of graduates by the largest tech companies has dropped significantly since 2019. Companies like Amazon have already announced plans to reduce their workforce.

The application of AI does not always deliver the expected results. According to a report by MIT, 95% of AI integration efforts have failed to increase business revenue.

Researchers found that most companies limited themselves to simply adding AI tools to existing processes without redesigning workflows around the new capabilities. Higher success rates are observed mainly in startups that leverage AI to solve specific problems.
